My goodbye Google email
If you're curious about what I sent to all my colleagues, this is what I wrote.
I had a lot of fun writing my exit email, so I’m sharing it here. If you left before me, this is for you too!
Hi Everyone,
I decided to take CORE’s VEP and October 12 will be my last day. If you’re receiving this email, we crossed paths during my 18+ years at Google. What a ride it’s been!
18+ years completed at Google
17 office moves (more than 99.05% of Googlers)
16 x 3 pieces of schwag collected (probably still a vast underestimation)
15 minutes: my shortest door-to-door commute when I lived near Washington Square Park and could take the Google shuttle one stop to 345 Spear
14 people (twelve sweaty Googlers and our friends who drove) who crammed into two vans to run The Relay for Google, a 200-mile race that I captained in 2011 and 2010 (I also ran in 2009 and 2008)
13 articles published on The Keyword under my byline (one more coming).
12 different managers
11 true friendships (at least!)
10 offices visited around the world. Faves were Sydney, Taipei, and Tokyo.
9th Avenue. Work took me to NYC a lot. Next week will be the thirteenth time.
8 Xooglers from 2 different mentorship groups that have supported each other through various career and life events throughout the years. I’ll be the last to leave.
7 Googlers (one left after I go) who created the Google logo out of micro-kitchen snack packaging for the Googley Art Wall Contest. We didn’t win, but we did get a shout out in The Wall Street Journal.
6 different roles. From the first graphic designer hired for Online Sales and Operations to Product Strategy and Marketing Lead for Google Registry.
5 different offices (CL4, SPE, 1MST, 188E, Remote)
4 work-related celebrity encounters (RIP Robert Redford).
3 maternity leaves taken 🩷 💙🩷
2 times emailing Larry Page about .page and other TLD related things 👀
1 book illustrated that has been continuously in print since 2019, with over 5K copies out in the world (currently out of stock, but should be coming back to the Google Merch Shop).
Thank you for sharing my journey. Working with all of you was truly the best part. Google has shaped me in countless ways and I’ll forever be grateful. If you’ve made it to the end of this email, my parting gift is this photo album (not linking here for the broader internet, but if you’re a friend you know how to find me). If we ever attended an offsite together, chances are you’re in here.
Please keep in touch,
Christina
